Some projects feel routine. Others leave a mark.
This one in Gaithersburg, MD (20878)? It’s one we won’t forget.
The homeowner reached out with a vision: a natural-looking pond that felt like it had always been part of the property—something you might stumble upon during a hike in the woods. A place for peaceful moments, morning coffee, and meaningful conversations.
They wanted beauty, yes—but also a deeper kind of peace.

We Built This Dream Backyard Pond in Just 4 Days
A Backyard Made for Breathing Room
This wasn’t just a “pond”—it was a lifestyle upgrade.
Built into a sloped Gaithersburg backyard, this custom ecosystem pond features:
- Hand-selected Pennsylvania boulders
- River gravel and aquatic plants that blend seamlessly with the landscape
- A natural waterfall, designed for both sight and sound
- A discreet skimmer and biofalls system to keep water crystal clear
- Space for koi or goldfish (and plenty of butterflies and dragonflies, too)
Everything was built in just 4 days—but designed to last a lifetime.
Been Thinking About It for Years? You’re Not Alone.
Most of our clients have had the idea for a pond in the back of their mind for a long time. They’ve seen photos. Watched videos. Even pictured themselves by the water.
But something always holds them back—until it doesn’t.
And once the project is done?
They all say the same thing:
“I wish we did this years ago.”
More Than Landscaping—It’s a Life Upgrade
Adding a water feature is more than aesthetics. It’s about changing how you live in your space.
- Morning coffee by the water
- Evenings with your spouse listening to the waterfall
- A space that draws in wildlife and quiets the mind
- A one-of-a-kind yard no one else has
We’ve seen it over and over:
A good pond changes a backyard. A great pond changes the people who live there.

About the Builder
Mike Coan builds ponds for a living—and yes, it’s as cool as it sounds. He and his wife Gabby run Oasis Water Gardens, where they help people turn empty backyards into peaceful retreats full of life and sound.
Mike is known not just as a builder, but as an artist with water and stone. His work is inspired by nature, and he’s been nominated for Aquascape’s 2025 Artist of the Year.
When he’s not crafting waterfalls for clients, he’s probably outside with his son, Mikey—splashing in the front yard pond they built together.
